Ultimate Panzer General I Equipment File Version 2.0 27 February, 1998 I. Files a. UPG1Read.txt (this file) b. UPG1.xls (PzGen Unit Data File - Excel format) c. PANZEQUP.eqp (the modified PzGen equipment file) II. Installation a. Backup your original Panzequp.eqp. b. Copy the new PANZEQUP.EQP to the c:\pg\dat directory. c. Start the game normally. Note: The preferred method of installation uses the diskette version of Panzer General. If you are using the CD version of the game, additional modifications will be necessary to keep the program from reading the equipment file directly from your CD. The TekTutor file, available at the PzGen Zerstorer or Hex Commanders web sites, is available for assistance. III. Game Notes a. The purpose of this modified equipment file is to bring the original Panzer General game up to Panzer General II standards. This creates a more realistic and challenging game without extensive program modifications or reducing the number of core units available to the player. b. All scenarios are supported. Please note however that the modifications were designed for single player (German) games against the computer AI. For an even greater challenge players may adjust the game difficulty settings to "hard". c. Version 2.0 (Dos/Win95) uses modified Panzer General DOS files (prior versions used Allied General Files). With this version, the 13 "extra" units previously included are no longer available. Unfortunately these additional units caused occasional problems in the Windows version of Panzer General. The new files should be compatible with all versions of the original Panzer General game. IV. Data Notes a. Version 2.0 is based on corrected Panzer General II data (PzGen II ULTIMATE Equipment File v2.3). Data was not used when inappropriate for the original game (aircraft movement, artillery range changes etc). b. Spotting restrictions for aircraft (2 hexes maximum) have been included. While the effect is not identical to that in PzGen II, it does increase the "fog of war" and increases the relative value of ground Recon units. c. German/Axis prestige costs are based on 85% of the PzGen II formula costs, modified where necessary for game balance. While some adjustments were made to the Allies units, most Allied equipment costs were not increased since this would unnecessarily handicap the computer AI and create a less challenging game. d. All Infantry units have increased ground/air defense (usually +1) as well as a standard spotting distance of two hexes. V. Unit Changes 1.
