PBEM Rules & Practices This Tournament of mine is jsut for fun. If you lose, you then play against another opponent, that has lost also, if you lose twice your out, you agree with your opponent at what pace of place the 2 of you will be able to do, then please 1 of you email me this info and decide which or both of you will periodically email me and keep me updated on the game. The games are randomly chosen, 1 group is playing in Europe and another in Russia, I just draw the scenarios at Random. If either of you have a problem, please email me ASAP if you cant work it out, as it's not a problem for me to intervene, it is just a part of Play by email in games for disputes to arise, its unavoidable at times. Wendy Or Play By E-mail Rules & Practices In the Process of breaking any of these Rules, either General reserves the right to cancel any game in progress after a rule or rules are broken, and officially the game will go as a Draw. But if it's clear the General, ending the game will lose, then both may agree to count it as a loss. Otherwise no need to argue over a game. Please be courteous and thoughtful of your opponents at all times. And attempt to make it clear from the start as to what, if any conversation will take place in email. Example: Only talk about the game at hand or if any Personal chat will take place on your personal lives or of this nature, or if preferred no chat at all or maybe just an occasional comment or greeting, all Generals are different and some prefer not to talk much at all, please respect this. 1. NO CHEATING of any kind. 2. Replaying moves to get better results IS CHEATING. 3. Save your moves and replay them ONLY when the game is finished. This practice should improve your understanding of tactics, strategy and the like. 4. Do not brag or demean your opponent in any way,but also being helful to further your opponents knowledge in a particular scenario is accepted. 5. Be gracious and courteous in all E-mail communications at all times. 6. A game is not automatically considered to be a registered/sanctioned game in ANY club, unless BOTH opponents agree to it BEFORE the game commences. 7. If the game is registered as agreed upon by both parties, then the outcome MUST be registered as a win or loss by BOTH players at the end of the game. Irrespective of bad luck or mistakes, a loss is a loss and should be registered as such. Such is war...... 8. NEVER ask your opponent for a replay or to accept a draw for any reason if you lost the game fair and square.... 9. Trying anything to get your opponent's password and using it IS CHEATING. Tampering with saved game files IS ALSO CHEATING. 10. If you suspect that your opponent has cheated, MAKE 100% CERTAIN that this is, indeed, the case. ONLY THEN GRACIOUSLY inform your opponent and end the game and all further E-mail contact with that person immediately. Do NOT falsely accuse someone of cheating to avoid a loss; what will you ever learn from this ? Or in the case of a Tournament or other important game Please notify the person in charge ASAP and make & send copies of the suspected saved game files and all emails involved,so a final decision may be made. 11. All clubs have some percentage of cheaters; ACCEPT this fact and handle things wisely if you ever come across one. 12. Try advancing your knowledge of each scenario you play with an opponent by discussing with him/her helpful hints re: tactics, strategy and the like, immediately after the end of the game, or if acceptable to both opponents during the match also. 13. ZIP (compress) your saved game files, if possible; it helps avoid file corruption during transmission (in some instances, file corruption may make your opponent suspect you of having cheated !)use Winzip or Winrar both are excellent compression utilities. 14. Winzip is great for zipping. Get it at WWW.Winzip.com or WWW.zdnet.com 15. If you play against more than 2 opponents simultaneously, open new folders to save and hold each opponent's game moves as well as your own. You may need them later ! 16. At the start of negotiations, DO inform your opponent how often, in general, you can play and send out moves. 17. Similarly, DO inform opponents if you will be away for any length of time and will be unable to play and send out moves. 18. Any game that, for any reason, cannot be completed by a player must be counted as a loss and reported as such, unless otherwise agreed upon by BOTH players involved at the time the difficulty arises. 19. Keep in mind that trying to confuse or trap your opponent with what you write in your E-mails DURING the course of the game is NOT considered to be foul play (e.g., saying you are planning an attack here and then attacking somewhere else). HOWEVER, if the issue GETS aired during negotiations and both parties agree to abstain from using disinformation as a weapon, THEN BOTH parties should be on the honor system and totally avoid intentionally E-mailing falsehoods ! 20. Attempt to honestly and reasonably rank yourself: Advanced, Intermediate, or Novice. 21. Wins and losses do not necessarily reflect a player's rank accurately, 20-2 does not always mean that the person is Advanced. He/she may know a certain scenario well or, perhaps, he/she has just been playing against lower ranked opponents (or some combination of such things). 22. Judge your opponent on the basis of experience, not "official" records. 23. If practicable, challenge and play (being fully prepared to lose !) more skilled opponents; it's the only way to learn and improve your game. PLAY the BEST to be the best ! 24. DO NOT let your excellent win-loss or undefeated record interfere with your recording of a loss ! LEARN from the defeat and REGISTER it. For example, if you have a 5-0 or whatever undefeated record, that first loss is always the hardest to register. DO IT, and LEARN. 25. AIR any issues particular to a computer game or scenario DURING negotiations. For example, in Panzer General the Abort Move button can be (ab)used for systematic recon. Similarly, not everybody knows PBEM customs or wants to play with hidden units, weather and supply on etc.... 26. Do not just end contact with an opponent for whatever reason, without first informing your opponent, this is for courtesy only please. 27. Do not ever 100% take another's word of someone cheating, even if you know them well, If you play a suspected cheater then reserve guilt on this person for yourself. 28. Playing against the computer in a scenario, you have against to play a human opponent, right before you play them, just to find out where hidden units are, is a very unethical way of playing and frowned upon, the best example is Anzio, if your the Axis, you find and Attack the 2 Allied fighters that are hidden but vulnerable, the only way to do this is to act as if you don't know they are there, it is impossible that the Axis would scout out this area and find them, so don't attack them, it's an unethical way of playing by using the computer mainly on turn 1 to get this hidden unit info. A Courteous, Gracious and Honest General is always the BEST. RESPECT ALL OTHERS. Author: Wendy & friends Please feel free to send me any additions or changes to this text you think are needed.
